Short answer: On October 26, 2026, Apple released iOS 27.2, and with it Siri AI, the new, much more conversational version of Siri, got two upgrades that matter for everyday users. It can now recall past conversations you had with it, so you can ask about something it told you before, and it is now available in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, on top of English. Apple still labels Siri AI a beta, it needs a fairly recent device, and it is not available on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch in the European Union.

What happened

Apple launched Siri AI on September 14, 2026, as a beta in English. It is a rebuilt version of Siri that can answer broad questions, find things across your messages, emails and photos, understand what is on your screen, and carry out actions in apps, such as creating a calendar event or sending a message. On October 26, with the 27.2 updates for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro, Apple added the next batch of languages and a few new abilities.

According to Apple and MacRumors' summary of iOS 27.2, the update brings:

  • Memory of past Siri conversations. Siri AI can recall earlier conversations you had with it, for example a restaurant it recommended last week.
  • More sources to draw on. Photos attached to Messages, calendar event attendees and voicemails can now be used, and Apple says results improve with Safari history and Reading List.
  • A simpler Excluded Apps control. You can now pick which apps Siri, Search and suggestions may access in one redesigned screen. Before, apps had to be excluded one by one.
  • Five more languages. Siri AI is now available in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Apple says Traditional Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese are coming by the end of the year.
  • Easier copying. You can select and copy just the part of a Siri answer that you need.

Why it matters

Until now, most voice assistants treated every request as a fresh start. You asked, you got an answer, and the next request began from zero. Being able to return to an earlier conversation ("what was that place you suggested?") is a small change that makes an assistant feel more continuous and more useful for planning, errands and follow-up questions.

The language expansion matters just as much. For people who do not use their phone in English, an assistant that works in their own language is a practical everyday improvement rather than a demo.

There is also a trade-off, which is why the new Excluded Apps screen is worth a look. A more helpful assistant is one that has access to more of your messages, mail and photos. Apple says the system combines on-device processing with its Private Cloud Compute servers, that your personal data is not stored on those servers or accessible to Apple, and that outside experts can verify this. That is Apple's description of its design, and you decide for yourself how much of your life you want any assistant to see.

What it means for you

  • If you use an iPhone 15 Pro or later in a supported country, update to iOS 27.2, go to Settings, then Siri, and look for the option to try Siri AI (Beta). Apple's support page says you pick a voice, enroll your voice, review your privacy settings and join a waitlist, and the download starts when your turn comes.
  • If your phone is set to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese or Spanish, you can now try it in your own language. The device language and the Siri language must be set to the same supported language.
  • If you live in the EU, Siri AI is not available on iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch. Apple's support page says it is available on Mac and Apple Vision Pro for people whose Apple Account region is in the EU, with the device and Siri language both set to English. Apple says it is working with the EU to find a path forward.
  • If you have children under 13, note that Siri AI is not available for users under 13.

Quick checklist before you switch it on

  1. Check that your device is supported and that the device and Siri languages match.
  2. Read the privacy screen during setup instead of tapping through it.
  3. Open the Excluded Apps setting and remove access for any app you consider too private for an assistant, such as banking, health or a private notes app.
  4. Remember that conversations in the Siri app are synced between your devices through iCloud. If you share a device, think about who can open the app.
  5. Treat it as a beta. Check important facts, dates and message drafts before you rely on them.
  6. Keep passwords, ID numbers and card details out of any assistant, whatever its privacy promises.

Frequently asked questions

Is Siri AI finished? No. Apple calls it a beta, and some features may not be available in all regions or languages.

Do I need a new iPhone? You need an Apple Intelligence-capable device. For iPhone, Apple lists the iPhone 15 Pro models and later, and the iPhone 16 models or later. Some features, such as the more expressive voices, need the newest hardware.

Is it free? Apple says certain features that rely on server-side models are subject to daily usage limits, and that expanded access will be available for a fee in the future.

Can it use my other apps? Yes, Apple says Siri AI works with apps from developers, including WhatsApp and Audible, and more are coming. You can limit which apps it sees with the Excluded Apps setting.

Does it work when I travel? Apple says that after you turn on Siri AI, it keeps working when you travel to other regions.
